The Lifeguard
Would a lifeguard ponder to himself
perched high upon his chair,
“Is he really worth the rescue,
that man who drowns out there?”
No lifeguard that I know of
would employ such cogitation.
A lifeguard’s duty is to save –
that is his task, his station.
Not a great poem, but I decided to include it anyway because I remember that at the time I wrote this I was having some issues with self-worth. There have been times when I've been tempted to think that somehow Christ's atonement doesn't apply to me, so I wrote this poem almost in rebuttal to that thought.
